I'm unilaterally suspending my half of the writing competition for the day in favor of watching history unfold. I can always write 2000 words tomorrow, but Obama will only take the oath of office for the first time once.
I took the whole thing off as a day of celebration. I watched the important bits live streaming with Laura. Went to a Menomonie inaugural ball and drank champagne with friends old and new. And just generally took the time to set the event in my memory as an important turning point. There's lots of work to do and I am quite sure some of it won't get done and some of the attempted solution will fail. I am equally sure that I'm going to absolutely hate some of what Obama does over the next few years. But here at the beginning I wanted to revel in my feelings of hope for Obama and relief over the departure of Bush.

Ditto. I figure I can squeeze in extra words throughout the rest of the week.
I'm going to write in front of the TV. (It wouldn't be the first time I've done that, and for far less exciting things.)
You do what you have to, Tate. I'm not going to be distracted.
Heard it on the radio; will watch it later with the whole family thanks to TiVo. :)

I got up at 5:00 am to work on writing before I went to the day job to watch the proceedings.
